SEIU Endorses Mark Miller in 16th
Senate District Race
Surging Miller Campaign Snags Support of
Wisconsin’s Fastest Growing Union
Monona – Mark Miller today announced he
has received another high-profile endorsement in his run for the
State Senate by adding the support of the Service Employees
International Union (SEIU) State Council. SEIU is the fastest
growing union in Wisconsin, representing over 15,000 men and women
working in healthcare, nursing homes, homecare, public services and
building services.
Miller commented,
“My campaign continues to build momentum day by day. Adding the
support of the working men and women of Wisconsin’s fastest growing
union is yet another great boost.”
In endorsing Miller
SEIU District 1199W President Dian Palmer said, “In these difficult
times, we need state legislators who will offer real solutions to
the issues we face. Mark Miller has earned our support on the basis
of his longstanding, proven leadership on issues like health care
and job creation, and his consistent support of working men and
women.”
Miller authored
legislation to ensure that state subsidies go to businesses that pay
a living wage. He also supported legislation to increase the state
minimum wage and co-sponsored a bill to require equal work for equal
pay.
Miller is also the
lead Assembly author of the Wisconsin Universal Health Plan that
would offer health insurance coverage to every Wisconsin resident.
While Miller’s democratic opponent, Representative Tom Hebl, has
called universal health care “pie in the sky” legislation, Miller
says that he just wants to make sure “everyone gets a slice.”
Affordable health care is a real need, and Mark Miller joins Senator
Russ Feingold, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, and many others in
working to provide quality, affordable health care to every
Wisconsin resident.
In addition to the
support of the SEIU, Miller has also received the endorsements of
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz
and over ninety current and former public officials from Dane and
Columbia counties.
“I’m proud to be
the only candidate in this race that has a real plan to offer health
insurance coverage to every Wisconsin resident, and I’m thrilled to
have the support of the working men and women of SEIU,” concluded
Miller.
